Meet the Peak Team

Beethe, Anne

Dr. Anne Beethe - Director of Peak Performance

Dr. Anne Beethe joined Colby Athletics as Director of Peak Performance at the onset of the 2022-23 academic year.

Launched in 2019, Colby's Peak Performance program combines all areas that impact an athlete's experience and performance into one holistic model so a team approach for individualized development is executed. Beethe will oversee the development and execution of the Peak Performance team, including Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, Sports Psychology, Nutrition, and Sports Science.

Beethe has significant experience in all areas that make up the impressive program, mastering each segment throughout her professional career. After receiving her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Creighton University where she competed as a Division I rower, she began her career as a strength and conditioning coach at Athletes Training Center in Omaha, Neb., followed by two years as an athletic trainer at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C. Beethe completed her doctoral degree in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Pittsburgh, specializing in elite levels of sport and tactical athlete performance and injury prevention. She recently finished her post-doctoral fellowship at Utah State University, studying neurophysiology of brain and body connectivity after serious trauma, such as after an ACL injury.

"I am so honored to be joining Colby College as Director of Peak Performance," said Beethe. "Mike Wisecup and Dr. Lloyd Beckett, in combination with the rest of the Peak Performance team, have set up an incredible program. I am thrilled for the opportunity to work with such a talented group of coaches and professionals to improve student-athlete performance and the overall college experience at Colby. I am also incredibly excited to be moving to Maine and to have the chance to experience all that the great state has to offer. Where else can you hike, snowboard, and be out on the ocean and lakes all in the same place?"

Craig Buckley - Dawn Strout Head Strength & Conditioning Coach

Colby College has announced Craig Buckley as the Dawn Strout Head Strength & Conditioning Coach effective June 5th, 2023.

"I am incredibly excited to welcome Craig to our team" said Dr. Anne Beethe, Director of Peak Performance. "He brings a seasoned expertise to our program which will take Colby Athletics to another stage of success. Craig's knowledge and passion for training student-athletes, combined with his incentive to build community, made him a fantastic fit for our team."

Buckley will be a key member for the Peak Performance Team, working as a Peak Lead coordinator in charge of the strength & conditioning component for all 32 varsity programs, including its staff.  In conjunction with Colby's other Peak Leads (Tim Weston: Director of Sports Medicine, Dr. Amy Baltzell: Mental Performance Specialist, Alexis Jones: Registered Dietitian, Dr. Elizabeth Rothe: Team Physician), Dr. Beethe's team works collectively to support student-athletes and coaches in a fully comprehensive way not seen at any other Division III institution.

With 20 years of coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level, Buckley has led strength and conditioning programs at Boston College, North Carolina State, the University of Pittsburgh, Bryant University, and the University of Wisconsin.  Prior to entering the coaching realm, he competed as an All-American wrestler for the Bridgewater State Bears.  His pursuit of competition has never left him, as Buckley competed in the Weightlifting Olympic Trials in 2012 (Columbus, Ohio), and most recently won a Masters National title in 2021.

"I am thrilled about the opportunity to work at Colby and to join Dr. Beethe's team," said Buckley.  "I am incredibly impressed with the Peak Performance model and the facilities, and see endless possibilities for the overall development of Colby's student-athletes. As someone who continuously looks to expand my expertise by exploring new methods and techniques in this field, there is no better scenario than what Colby's Peak Performance team has established and is strengthening for its students day in and day out. I am excited to get to know all my new colleagues and work towards winning NESCAC titles with all of you!"

Beaux Myers joined Colby in the spring of 2024 as the mental performance coach for all of Colby Athletics. As a key member of the Peak Performance program, Myers works closely with athletes and coaches of all teams, as well as the rest of the Peak Performance team, in a concerted effort to elevate the experiences of Colby's student-athletes.

Initiated in 2018 as the first of its kind at the Division III level, Colby's Peak Performance program positions the student-athlete in the center of a holistic support system comprised of strength and conditioning, sports medicine, nutrition, sports science, and sports psychology. Constant connectivity across each field provides consistent support in every area an athlete may need it. Prior to this announcement, the sports psychology component of athlete development and performance at Colby was supported by a part-time position.

"We are excited to have Beaux with us as our first full-time mental performance coach," said Director of Peak Performance Dr. Anne Beethe. "This commitment to our program reinforces what we are doing here at Colby and makes our Peak Performance team more robust. Not only will Beaux be working with our student-athletes and coaches, but he will be present at practices, in the athletic training room, and in the weight room. He will help provide significantly greater reach for mental performance to help our student-athletes."

A high-performance model such as Colby's Peak Performance program is more commonly seen at the professional level (NFL, NHL, MLB), within elite military special operations (Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces), as well as select Division I institutions such as Wisconsin, Nebraska, Dartmouth, and Yale. Colby's program was the first of its kind at the Division III level.

"I am extremely excited about this opportunity," said Myers. "As a mental performance coach, I strive to be a resource for student-athletes' development, both in and away from their sport. Being a former Division III athlete, my own experiences led me to discover my passion for supporting and developing the mental performance of student-athletes while also pursuing my love of sport. Once I saw this opportunity at Colby, I realized this was my chance to support the development of current and future Division III student-athletes."

Myers competed in golf at St. Norbert College, later returning to coach the women's team for the Green Knights. He received a master's of science in sport, exercise, and performance psychology from the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay and earned a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) certification from the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. Myers has worked as a mental performance coach at high school, collegiate, and clinical levels.

"Focusing on mental performance in sport helps athletes push past major barriers to reach full performance abilities," said Beethe. "Fear, confidence issues, and preparing for the unexpected are all spaces any athlete needs practice and exercise. They put in the time on the court, ice, field, etc., and now they have the opportunity to exercise the mental aspect as well, with an expert in the field on staff."

The mental performance coach position was made possible by the support of Friends of Colby Athletics.

Mollie Bartles RDN, LDN. - Registered Dietitian

Bartles played softball for the University of New England, graduating in 2016 with a degree in Sport and Recreation Management. She immediately went on to earn the first of her graduate degrees in 2019 in Applied Nutrition - Preventative Diseases, followed by her second in the same field in 2023, this time with a Dietetics Focus. Bartles notes that her drive in the profession comes from a lack of nutritional awareness during her years as an athlete, and she strives to help athletes understand the importance of nutrition.

"We are so excited to welcome Mollie to the Peak Performance team. Mollie will be working with us in a consulting position, with her presence on campus a few times a month. This impact will be substantial for our student-athletes and coaches. Our athletes work so hard at their craft, but half of the work is the recovery and fuel itself. Mollie's work will help Colby Athletics get to the next level."

"I am very excited for this opportunity to work with the entirety of the Peak Performance team to help athletes and coaches perform at their best!" said Bartles.

With this addition, the Peak Performance program strengthens its reach in the five major areas of the student-athlete experience, which includes Nutrition, Sports Medicine, Mental Performance, Sports Science, and Strength and Conditioning. The consulting Registered Dietitian position was made possible by the support of Friends of Athletics.
