HOURS
ACCESS and GUIDELINES
- A valid Colby ID is required for access to the building. For information on how to acquire a card, see FACILITY ACCESS CARD below.
- Currently open to members of the Colby campus community (students, faculty, staff) only. For use by a guest of a valid cardholder, see GUEST PASSES below.
- No illicit substances may be brought into the facility. (i.e alcohol, tobacco, or other substances).
- Respect yourself, your peers, the staff, and members of the community at all times. Foul language and inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.
- All users should consult their health-care provider before engaging in any physical activity or exercise program.
- Lost and found is located at the reception desk - items will be held for 30 days after which they will be donated.
- Dogs and other pets are NOT permitted inside the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center, with the exception of service animals.
- Please refrain from spitting in the water fountains.
FACILITY USE GUIDELINES
- Valid cardholders are able to access the building through the main entrance. Upon entering the facility, all cardholders are required to check in at the front desk.
- Dependents under the age of 18 are required to be supervised by a valid Colby Card holder at all times. Dependents between the age of 18-21 are permitted to use the facilities unsupervised after checking in.
- Valid Colby Cardholders are permitted to bring one guest per use of the facility, see GUEST PASSES below.
- The Team Entrance is accessible by Colby Athletes and Athletic Staff only. All other users should use the Main Entrance.
- The fitness center and various venues will require card access at all times.
- For Colby Events, doors will open two hours before scheduled start times.
- Venues will be un-accessible for use during varsity practices, competitions and recreational activities (unless open play). The availability of the various venues is posted under the recreation link on www.colbyathletics.com.
COMMUNITY USE
- During the academic year, outside community use should be coordinated with the Office of Campus Events (August 30th-May 20th). Campus events can be reached via phone at 207-859-4736 or by email, events@colby.edu
- During the summer months, outside community use should be coordinated with the Office of Special Programs (May 20th-August 30th). Special programs can be reached via phone at 207-859-4730 or by email summer@colby.edu
- Individual use passes, for outside community, will no longer be sold or issued.
FACILITY ACCESS CARD
- To enable access to the facility and the various venues, a facility access card will be issued to the following individuals (“valid cardholder”):
- Colby Retirees
- Spouses and domestic partners of Colby faculty members, staff members, retirees
- Summer session users registered with the Summer Programs Office will be given a temporary card through Summer Programs, and will be required to sign a waiver prior to using the facilities. For questions regarding Summer Programs use, please inquire at summer@colby.edu, 207-859-4730.
- Cards can be obtained through the Card Office, colbycard@colby.edu, 207-859-4130.
CHILDREN
- Legal dependents of Colby faculty and staff members may access the facility under the following terms:
- All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
- Children above the age of 18 can acquire the facility access card, and will age out at 22.
LACTATION ROOMS
Supporting members of our Colby community as well as visitors to campus throughout their pregnancy and breastfeeding journey is important to the college. To support these needs, the college has designated lactation spaces on campus as follows:
- Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts, Room 152
- Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center, Room D219
Use of lactation rooms is on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition to these designated spaces, faculty and staff private offices may also be used for this purpose. More information can be found on Colby's Human Resources website HERE.
GUEST PASSES
- A guest of a student, faculty member, staff member, or retiree may use the facility, including all venues and fitness center ONLY if they are accompanied by their host.
- Guests must register at the front desk, and sign a waiver prior to use.
- Only one guest is allowed per valid cardholder, per visit.
- Spouses, domestic partners, and dependents do not have guest privileges to invite additional guests.
LOCKER USE
- Faculty/Staff will be permitted to use lockers in the designated locker rooms for faculty/staff. Please check in with the Assistant Director of Athletics for Facilities, Operations to see if any lockers are available for assignment within the Faculty/Staff Locker Room. If none are available, faculty and staff may access the day lockers within the public locker rooms. See Front Desk for guidance.

Use of the Harold Alfond Athletics and Recreation Center is a privilege. Failure to comply with policies and directions of the staff governing participation, equipment and/or conduct may result in suspension from the facility and/or its programs.
