Nutrition

Colby Athletics' sports nutrition initiative is committed to making nutrition a major part of the foundation of student athlete success. We use evidence-based practices in assessment, education, and targeted nutrition interventions to optimize performance, prevent injury, and enhance overall health. Colby's sports nutrition program strives to build athletes into champions by incorporating nutrition into their academic and training lives. We start with a “food first” philosophy, using the most up-to-date research to fuel all 32 varsity sports. A variety of services are available to student-athletes to help create a healthy lifestyle, allowing them to succeed both on the field, in the classroom, and beyond.

What Can Nutrition do for Sports Performance?

Sports nutrition can be used in many ways to help athletes improve performance.  Some examples include: helping to maximize endurance, strength, and focus, improve muscle repair and growth, improve energy levels throughout training, prevent or assist in healing from injury, improve gastrointestinal upset during training, correct vitamin/mineral deficiencies, and more. A sports dietitian can assess dietary habits and assist athletes in coming up with realistic strategies to successfully implement into their busy days.

Refueling Station:

The refueling station, centrally located on level 2 between the Ice Hockey Arena, Squash Courts, and Boulos Family Fitness Center, provides student-athletes with caloric resources optimizing practice and competition.  These include industry staples such as chocolate milk, Vitamin Water, Powerade, and apples to provide optimal ratios of carbs, fats, and proteins.
