Dr. Anne Beethe

Dr. Anne Beethe joined Colby Athletics as the Director of Peak Performance at the onset of the 2022-23 academic year.

"I couldn't be more excited to have Anne join our team and lead the Peak Performance program here at Colby," said Mike Wisecup, Vice President and Harold Alfond Director of Athletics. "Supporting the needs of every student-athlete is our highest priority, and the creation of the Peak Performance program was designed specifically to provide a highly tailored, cross-functional approach to student-athlete development."

Launched in 2019, Colby's Peak Performance program combines all areas that impact an athlete's experience and performance into one holistic model so a team approach for individualized development is executed. Beethe will oversee the development and execution of the Peak Performance team, including Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, Sports Psychology, Nutrition, and Sports Science.

Beethe has significant experience in all areas that make up the impressive program, mastering each segment throughout her professional career. After receiving her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Creighton University where she competed as a Division I rower, she began her career as a strength and conditioning coach at Athletes Training Center in Omaha, Neb., followed by two years as an athletic trainer at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C. Beethe completed her doctoral degree in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Pittsburgh, specializing in elite levels of sport and tactical athlete performance and injury prevention. She recently finished her post-doctoral fellowship at Utah State University, studying neurophysiology of brain and body connectivity after serious trauma, such as after an ACL injury.

"Anne's selection as the Director of Peak Performance will leverage her PhD in Rehabilitation Science, clinical athletic training, and certified strength and conditioning expertise, bringing our program to a higher level," said Wisecup. "Her experience and set of skills, combined with her forward-thinking and student-focused approach, separated her from a highly qualified pool of candidates."

"I am exceedingly proud of how the Peak Performance team has evolved over the past few years into a cohesive, collaborative, innovative, athlete-centered unit," said Dr. Lloyd Beckett, current Interim Director of Peak Performance at Colby. "Each year has brought tremendous growth and advancement in every area of student-athlete support. As we look to the future of this program, I am excited to welcome Dr. Beethe to the Colby team. She is an exceptional leader who brings a passion for athletic performance and innovation, coupled with a diverse background that makes her uniquely qualified to lead our outstanding team. The addition of Dr. Beethe will ensure that the Colby Peak Performance team will continue to drive the field of athletic performance forward and empower our student-athletes to compete at the peak of their abilities." Beckett, who has been a guiding force for the program through its first few years, will stay on board as a consultant.

"I am so honored to be joining Colby College as Director of Peak Performance," said Beethe. "Mike Wisecup and Dr. Lloyd Beckett, in combination with the rest of the Peak Performance team, have set up an incredible program. I am thrilled for the opportunity to work with such a talented group of coaches and professionals to improve student-athlete performance and the overall college experience at Colby. I am also incredibly excited to be moving to Maine and to have the chance to experience all that the great state has to offer. Where else can you hike, snowboard, and be out on the ocean and lakes all in the same place?"
