Box Score Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Field Hockey team played a non-conference matchup at Thomas College on Monday night. Through the pouring rain, the Mules and the Terriers battled for almost 80 minutes of play, but Colby came out on top with a 1-0 win in double overtime.
The Mules came out strong, coming off a conference win on Saturday, but Thomas also came out strong and put up a fight. Colby dominated the first half with possession, but they weren't able to capitalize on their offensive opportunities, as they took five shots on goal and earned two offensive penalty corners. Both teams continued to fight in the second half, Colby and Thomas only earning a handful of shots on goal each, and the game remained scoreless after 60 minutes. The Mules continued to dominate the possession of the game in the ten minutes of overtime, earning two penalty corners and one shot on net, white Thomas wasn't able to bring the ball into Colby's defensive end. Christina Sweeney put the game away with 56 seconds to play, giving Colby the 1-0 win on the night. This goal marks Sweeney's 10th goal and second game winner on the season, as she leads the Mules in goals and points. First-year
Ginna Jacoby recorded three saves over the 80-minute game and recorded her first career shutout.
Colby is back in action on Saturday at home against Wesleyan at 11am.
