Waterville, Maine — The Colby Field Hockey team wrapped up their regular season, capping off the schedule on Tuesday with a statement 2-0 shutout victory over NESCAC and in-state rival #15 Bates College on the Bill Alfond Field. The win highlighted a season defined by explosive offensive outputs, overtime grit, and a resolute defensive line that proved capable of going toe-to-toe with the nation's top programs.
Throughout the fall, the Mules consistently defended home turf, finishing 5-2 in Waterville. Colby opened the year with dominant non-conference shutouts against Husson (9-0), Saint Joseph's College of Maine (9-0), and Thomas College (4-0). Beyond non-conference play, the squad proved its mettle in high-stakes NESCAC battles—highlighted by a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory over #15 Amherst College, a hard-fought 3-2 league win over Connecticut College, and a signature 1-0 road thriller in extra time at Vassar.
In the regular-season finale against Bates, Colby showcased their complete-game ability. Ruth Collins opened the scoring early off an assist from Abby Morrill with her sixth goal of the season, while goalkeeper Ginna Jacoby anchored the back line with an 11-save shutout. Late in the fourth period, Christina Sweeney buried her team-leading seventh goal of the year off a setup from Maddie Campbell to seal the victory.
By virtue of their strong regular season performance in one of the premier conferences in Division III, the Mules officially stamped their ticket to post-season play, earning a spot in the NESCAC Tournament.
