Box Score Lewiston, Maine - The Colby Men's Tennis team concluded their 2024-25 fall campaign over the weekend at the Wallach Invitational hosted by Bates College. Colby sent nine players to the tournament to compete across two flights of singles and one flight of doubles. The event hosted Colby, Bates, and Trinity.
The Mules were dominant in doubles play, taking over the draw. Senior
James Bogdanovic and first-year
Jason Daly were the highlights of doubles, winning four matches along the way before being crowned champions. Bogdanovic and Daly started by defeating Bates' opponents 8-4 in the opening round, before an impressive showing in the quarterfinals, defeating another pair of Bates opponents 8-5. Senior captain

Marco Ziets-Segura received a bye into the quarterfinals, defeating Bates opponents 8-5. On the other half of the draw, sophomore
Paul Dandler and first-year
Diego Sosa also received a bye into the quarters, before defeating Bates opponents 8-4. With Saturday's successful doubles results, three of the four semifinalists were Colby pairings. After Sosa and Dandler defeated their Bates opponents 8-5 in the semifinals, an all-Colby final was guaranteed. In the other semifinal, Bogdanovic and Daly showed impressive mental toughness, coming back to defeat their fellow Colby teammates Cohen and Ziets-Segura 8-6 in a thrilling contest. In the all-Colby final, Bogdanovic and Daly kept their hot streak going, defeating Sosa and Dandler 8-5, winning the final six games of the contest.Â
In singles play,
Paul Dandler was the highlight for the Mules. Dandler won the A Singles Draw, winning matches against two Bates opponents and two Trinity opponents, without dropping a set. Dandler capped things off with a dominant 6-3, 6-0 win against his Trinity opponent in the finals, showcasing tremendous slice and flat variety, throwing his opponent off. Ziets-Segura also had an impressive run, defeating his Bates opponent 6-4, 6-3. Unfortunately in the quarterfinals, Ziets-Segura lost a heartbreaker to his Trinity opponent, losing 7-10 in the third set match tiebreaker. In the B Singles Draw, seniors
Julian Cangieter-Hernandez and
James Bogdanovic also had impressive showings. Despite tricky windy conditions, Cangieter-Hernandez prevailed against his Bates opponent in the opening round, winning 6-3, 6-3. He then fell to his Trinity opponent in the quarterfinals. Bogdanovic's success from the doubles court translated to singles play nicely, as he defeated two Bates opponents on Saturday without dropping a set. After a mid-match retirement from his Trinity opponent in the semifinals, Bogdanovic was in the finals. He came up just short against his Trinity opponent, losing a battle 4-6, 6-0, 5-10.Â
The Mules will return to action this spring for the dual team season, beginning in early March.Â
