Tigers Edge Mules in California Thriller

Los Angeles, Calif. - The Colby Men's Tennis team began its spring break trip in Southern California on Monday, facing off against Occidental College in a match that came down to the final sets. In a tightly contested battle that arrived at the final singles matches, Colby narrowly fell to Occidental College 4-3. The Mules are now 2-3 on the early spring season.

Colby started strong by securing the doubles point; the pairings of Jason Daly / Marco Ziets-Segura and Bilal Asim / Diego Sosa both earned 6-3 victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively.

However, the Tigers roared back in singles play, winning four of the six matches. Bilal Asim put up a resilient performance at No. 3 singles, winning a first-set tiebreaker to eventually take the match 7-6, 6-4. Matthew Jeong also earned a hard-fought three-set victory at the No. 6 spot (5-7, 6-1, 7-5). Despite the effort, Occidental clinched the match with a win at No. 4 singles, where Antonio Lee fell in a close third-set tiebreaker (3-6, 6-2, 7-5).

Colby looks to bounce back tomorrow as they travel to Pasadena to take on Caltech.
