Lewiston, ME - The Colby College Men's Tennis Team downed the Bates Bobcats by a score of 6-3 on Saturday, April 16th at Bates College. The Bobcats got off to a strong start in the doubles, with Bates taking both #1 and #3 doubles. Sam Henry and Max Schuermann came up big for the Mules at #2 doubles, taking a close contest 8-5 to get the Mules on the board. 

Down 1-2 in the overall score heading into the singles, the Mules knew they had to win at least 4 matches to clinch the win. The Mules started strong, with Joey Barrett, Jake Cohen, Sam Henry, Max Schuermann and Ben Powis all taking the first set. With on and off rain surrounding the area, Schuermann put the Mules at 2-2 with a 6-4, 6-0 win at the #4 position before the rain put the match indoors. Jan Wenger fell at the #1 position to give the Bobcats a 3-2 lead. 

The Mules adapted to the faster indoor surface very well with all four unfinished matches going to Colby. Barrett wrapped up a 7-5, 6-3 win at #2 while Powis clinched the match for the Mules with a 6-4, 6-2 win at #6. Cohen found himself in a battle, losing a tight second set 7-6(5). With the match decided, Cohen played a 10-point tiebreak to decide the match. Going up 4-0 quickly, Cohen then had to inch ahead of his opponent point by point as the score then became 8-6. Hitting an incredible second serve down the T at 8-7, Cohen found himself at match point and finished the match with a huge forehand to force an error from his opponent.
