Pasadena, CA - The Colby College Men's Tennis Team earned a huge win over the #18 ranked team in the nation, CalTech, on Friday, March 25th. This result is the program's second-biggest win ever, just behind their win against Redlands, ranked #17 in the country. The win marks a stellar California trip for the Mules, as they won every match they played, going a perfect 4-0, which included the two best wins in program history. 

Today's match started off shaky for the Mules, going down 2-1 in the doubles, with Jan Wenger and James Bogdanovic squeaking past their opponents in a high-quality tiebreaker at the #3 position. Sam Henry and Max Schuermann had a super close match, ultimately falling in a tiebreaker by a score of 8-7(6).

In the singles, the Mules knew they needed 4 match wins to defeat the CalTech Beavers. Joey Barrett pushed the Mules even with the Beavers at 2 matches a piece with his straight-set singles win at the #2 position. Wenger fought hard but fell at the #1 position, giving the Beavers a slight advantage at 3-2. Coming up huge for Colby was Sam Henry, who won his match in straight sets to push the Mules to 3-3 with CalTech. Ben Powis had a strong fight in his return to the singles lineup, but fell at the #6 position. With the match at 4-3 to the Beavers, Schuermann made the match even with his straight set singles win at the #4 position. It all came down to the undefeated singles player, Jake Cohen, at the #3 position. With an epic final game, Cohen clinched one of the biggest wins in program history with a 6-2 final set win.

"I was very proud of the team for battling back from a deficit after doubles," said Henry. "I am glad the week finished in a strong manner. Go Mules!"
