Orange, CA - The Colby College Men's Tennis Team defeated Chapman University 5-4 on Tuesday, March 22nd. The Mules, for the first time this season, went ahead up in doubles by a team score of 2-1, with victories from Sam Henry and Max Schuermann at the #2 position and James Bogdanovic and Jan Wenger at the #3 position. It is the first of many doubles victories for Bogdanovic and Wenger this season, and with Wenger's powerful serve and Bogdanovic's incredible dynamic play at net, the Mules felt confident to get the job done in singles.

In the singles, Joey Barrett and Jake Cohen continued their strong singles play with straight set victories to push the Mules within one match of defeating Chapman. With Wenger's loss at the #1 position, it came down to Schuermann, Henry and Bogdanovic at the 4th, 5th, and 6th positions respectively. Henry, with his signature crosscourt backhand that led him to the Bates Flight B title in the fall, defeated his opponent 6-4 6-4 to clinch the match for the Mules. Schuermann and Bodganovic battled, with Schuermann falling in a 10 point third set tiebreak and Bogdanovic falling in a third set. 

It was also a special day for the Mules, as every Colby Tennis Mule got to play matches, including exhibition. Ram Das defeated his opponent in straight sets at an exhibition position. Das has played his opponent before on four occasions and got revenge after swift loss last go around. Today, Das beat him 6-2, 6-2, showcasing his strong improvements during this school year. Josh Kaplan and Josh Fleishman beat their opponents 8-0 after a tough exhibition loss against Occidental. Julian Hernandez and Brendan Regenauer battled, but lost in their exhibition doubles match. 

For Wenger, today was a fun match despite the hot conditions and close matches. "When you feel the heat, the Mules get upbeat!"
