Middlebury, VT - The Colby Men's Tennis Team got their fall season start off and running at the Middlebury Invitational this weekend ( September 18-19). With five freshmen on the team this fall, the Mules were eager to play some high-quality tennis. Leading the charge in the doubles was Sophomore Joey Barrett and Freshman Jake Cohen, who made the semis of the A-flight draw with wins over Middlebury and Brandeis. Cohen had an outstanding first college tournament, making the finals of the B-flight singles as well. Barrett and Senior Co-Captain Max Schuermann made the quarterfinals of the A-flight singles. Sophomore Sam Henry made the quarterfinals of the B-flight singles and Freshman James Bogdanovic made the quarterfinals of the C-flight singles. Strong performances were found in the back draw for Freshmen Sriram Das, Josh Kaplan, and Julian Hernandez. Das and Kaplan won their consolation singles matches on Day 2. 

For Barrett (pictured left), today was a great sign of things to come for the Mules: "CMT had a positive weekend at the Middlebury Invitational! It was exciting to compete and travel as a group for the first time this season, and I think that our team's excitement was evident in the way that we competed and supported one another. I'm fired up to reflect on this weekend before another week of practice. Go Mules!" 

The Mules next compete at the ITA Regional Championship tournament at Bowdoin from September 24th-26th.
