Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Football team will officially kick off its 2026 campaign this Saturday, heading on the road for a high-stakes matchup against Trinity College.

The Mules enter the fall with momentum after a historic 2025 campaign that saw the program finish 6-3 overall—its best record since 2005. That standout year started with a statement, as Colby took care of Trinity 13-6 at home in the 2025 season opener—the program's first victory over the Bantams in 30 years. Last year's performance earned the program NESCAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors alongside nine All-NESCAC selections. The stakes are even higher this fall, as 2026 marks the first season NESCAC teams are eligible to earn both an automatic qualifier spot and at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament.

With postseason opportunity now expanding across the conference, head coach Jack Cosgrove enters his ninth season at the helm laser-focused on keeping the Mules among the NESCAC's elite.

"We are excited to begin our season!" stated Cosgrove. "We've grown a great deal during our pre-season practice sessions and feel good about our progress. We have a great challenge in front of us in Trinity, a perennially strong, multi-championship team in our conference. It will take our very best to go on the road and beat a great and highly respected program!"

The foundation for another historic run relies heavily on a strong veteran core, spearheaded by a senior class of 20 student-athletes. Four returning All-NESCAC honorees—Ameer White, Eli Soehren, Jack Nye, and Drew Ramos—lead the group after earning all-conference recognition last fall.

With high expectations, conference accolades, and unprecedented NCAA postseason pathways on the line, the Mules have all the pieces in place to make another statement starting Saturday.
