Middlebury, Vt. — Colby Football fell to Middlebury 32-2 on Saturday afternoon at Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. Despite the final score, the Mules showed improvement after halftime, holding the Panthers scoreless in the third quarter and creating several opportunities on both sides of the ball.
After Middlebury built a 25-0 halftime advantage, Colby's defense responded with a strong third quarter. The Mules got on the scoreboard early in the half when pressure on the Middlebury punt unit resulted in a safety. Colby also blocked a 29 yard field goal attempt later in the quarter, helping keep the Panthers off the board throughout the period.
Offensively, quarterback Damon Taylor completed 14 passes for 79 yards, while Alex Clapp led the receiving group with three catches for 36 yards. Sean Trinder added 24 receiving yards, including a 17 yard reception that helped move the Mules into Middlebury territory during the third quarter. Antone Moreis led Colby on the ground with 28 rushing yards.
The Colby defense continued to compete throughout the afternoon. Christopher Milmoe led the unit with 10 total tackles, while Nicholas Cox recorded nine. Trey Stevens and Oliver Knight combined for a fourth quarter sack as the Mules continued to pressure Middlebury late in the game.
The Mules return to action Saturday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m., traveling to Middletown, Connecticut, to face Wesleyan University as they look to bounce back and earn their first victory of the season.
