Middlebury. Vt. - The Colby Men's Tennis team launched their fall season this past weekend at the three-day MIT Invitational in Cambridge, marking the program's debut under newly appointed head coach Matt Brisotti.
Colby faced steep competition throughout the tournament, battling through grueling singles and doubles slates against regional foes Amherst, Wesleyan, and Babson. Highlights were hard-earned in singles play, led by first-year Owen Lauw, who delivered a gritty performance on Friday evening by outlasting his Amherst opponent in a three-set tiebreaker (4-6, 7-6, 10-7). Eli Linn provided another bright spot for Colby on Saturday afternoon, securing a straight-sets victory (7-5, 6-3) in his singles match against Wesleyan. Though the team struggled to find traction in doubles play across the weekend, the tournament provided valuable early-season reps for the roster against top Division III programs.
The Mules will take a two-week break from competition before traveling to Middlebury to compete in the ITA Regional Championships September 25-27.
