Lewiston, Maine - The Colby College Men's Tennis team wrapped up its fall tournament campaign over the weekend, putting together two competitive days of round-robin action at the Wallach Invitational hosted by Bates College. Competing against a strong NESCAC and regional field that included Brandeis, Trinity, and host Bates, the Mules surged through the latter rounds of the event to earn strong results in both singles and doubles.
After dropping initial matchups to Brandeis on Saturday morning, Colby responded emphatically during afternoon singles against host Bates. Rhys Spano spearheaded the bounce-back with a crisp 6-2, 6-2 win over Phillippe Kosyagin, while Alex Steele earned a convincing 6-1, 6-3 victory over Josh Maller. Antonio Lee and Kevin Mortimer both dug deep in third-set super tiebreaks, with Lee topping Nico Ozer 6-4, 3-6, 10-4 and Mortimer grinding past Will Marshall 6-7 (4), 6-3, 10-8.
Sunday proved to be Colby's most impressive day of play, starting with back-to-back doubles victories over Bates and Trinity. The pairing of Eli Linn and Lee set the tone by defeating Bates' top duo of Kosyagin and Tair Sarmanov 6-4 before taking down Trinity's Keyon'Dre Clarke and Thompson Brown 6-3. Rudr Malayya and Kayvon Kasravi picked up a 6-3 win over Bates, while Kasravi teamed up with Spano to outlast Trinity 7-6 (1).
Colby closed out the tournament in dominant fashion during Sunday's singles session against Trinity, capturing six victories. Mortimer rolled to a 6-2, 6-0 win against Hunter Morton, Linn dispatched Peter Bilicic 7-5, 6-0, and Owen Lauw secured a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win over Max Golubenko. Malayya posted an 8-4 win over Maximo Lopina, while Kasravi (4-6, 6-1, 10-2) and Sean Wang (7-5, 3-6, 10-6) both earned hard-fought super-tiebreak triumphs to seal a strong fall finale.
With the fall tournament schedule complete, the Mules now shift their focus to off-season training before returning to action for the spring championship season.
