Colby Men's Crew Sweep WPI, Hamilton, and Vassar to Start Spring Season

Worcester, Mass - #7 Colby Crew made the trip down to Worcester this weekend for their season opener, competing for the Class of 2003 Cup with #2 Wesleyan, #8 WPI, #12 Hamilton, and Vassar. Lake Quinsigamond greeted the team with partly sunny skies, moderate temps, and a tailwind that made for quick conditions.The Mules executed a clean sweep of WPI, Hamilton, and Vassar, yet fell to Wesleyan's strong crews. With a great early season result, Men's Crew returned to Maine hungry for more.

The first varsity eight of: Nate Dunn '27, Connor Katz '29, Andy Li '28, Ian Ucko '28, Jack Childress '26, Jack Weinberg '26, Reed Blaeser '29, William Eardley '26, and Cole Christensen '27 finished second in their race with a time of 5:56.7. They crossed the line 8 seconds behind Wesleyan, 7.6 seconds ahead of WPI, 11.2 seconds ahead of Hamilton, and 20.5 seconds ahead of Vassar.  

The second varsity eight of: Leon Lee '29, Benjamin Zipkin '29, Nolan Roche '28, Alex Malkani '29, Brendan Barrett '27, William Steinwachs '29, Timothy Enos '29, Theo Grossman '27, and Jackson Harrington '28 placed second in their race, going 6:02.9. Maintaining composure throughout the race, the Mules maintained overlap with Wesleyan and held them to a 2 second lead. Finishing 20 seconds ahead of WPI and 31.84 seconds ahead of Hamilton, Colby established a commanding lead over the rest of the field. 

The third varsity eight of: Charlie Pantelick '27, Charlie King '29, Bennett Jones '27, Robbie Trowbridge '28, Garrett Leonard '29, Tyler Merritt '28, Sumner Groves '28, Atticus Coyne '29, and Sawyer Dillion '28 finished second with a time of 6:21.4. They crossed the line 10.8 seconds behind Wesleyan and 13.4 seconds ahead of WPI. 

The fourth varsity eight of: Addison Schonewald '29, Alex Furber '29, Josh Bradshaw '28, Shankara Rao '29, Henry Evans '28, Dan Steber '27, Sam Mulcahy '28, Doug DeNatale '28, and Theo Ornstein '28 finished second, going 6:08.7. Crossing the line 3.7 seconds behind Wesleyan and 45 seconds ahead of WPI, the 3V closed out the day of racing and completed the sweep of WPI.
