Lewiston, Maine - Colby College delivered a strong showing at the Maine State Championship hosted by Bates College, with both the women's and men's teams finishing third out of eight teams.
The women were led by a dominant sprint performance, as
Simone Waheed captured the 60-meter title in 7.76, followed closely by
Charlotte Brake-Hoffman in second (7.88).
Kaitlyn Ewald added a runner-up finish in the 200 meters (26.38) and later placed third in the long jump at 5.20 meters, while
Josie Hopkins earned second in the event with a mark of 5.24 meters.
Alex Hermsdorf finished second in the 400 meters (59.62),
Amanda Schneider took third (1:00.34), and the middle-distance group continued to score points with
Olivia Doherty (second, 2:21.54) and
Paige Goodwin (third, 2:22.82) in the 800 meters. Colby also picked up a relay victory in the 4x200, as Hermsdorf,
Tally Zeller, Ewald, and Brake-Hoffman won in 1:42.85, while additional podium finishes came in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
On the men's side,
Jackson Coelho highlighted the day by winning the 400 meters in 49.34, with Sam Graubart finishing second in 50.00.
Danny Reyes claimed the 5,000-meter title in 15:25.90, and the 4x800 relay of
Henry Reichle,
Eli Ziegler,
Jed Gallaudet, and
Liam McGoldrick earned first place in 8:10.78. Reichle and Ziegler also placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 800 meters, while Gallaudet took second in the 1,000 meters. In the field events,
Logan Lehnert won the pole vault at 4.60 meters, joined on the podium by
Lexington Lehnert in second, and
Logan Sullivan added a third-place finish in the high jump at 1.92 meters, rounding out a balanced team effort for the Mules.
The Mules would be back on Friday, February 13 for the Valentine Invitational at Boston, Mass.
