Coming off a strong training trip in Key Largo, FL in December and a tough 8 days of training in Waterville, the #16 ranked Colby Swimming and Diving team had a dominating performance in their win against #23 ranked Middlebury. The Mules won 14 of 16 events and went 1,2,3 in 4 of those events and 1,2 in another 4. The final score was Colby 209 Middlebury 89.Â
The meet started off strong in the 200 Medley relay where the team of
Alexis Coates,
Kellen Mottl,
Lexi Asch and
Eliza Marco won the event by 3.5 seconds over the 2nd place Middlebury team. Members of that relay would also go on to win 9 individual events as well throughout the meet. Coates won the both the 50 and the 100 backstrokes where she was followed by
Zoe Fencil in 2nd place in both. In the 50 it was a 1,2,3 sweep with
Sarah Michael finishing in 3rd. In the breaststroke Mottl won both the 50 and 100 and also led a sweep in the 100 IM where
Caitlin Lacey got 2nd and
Zoe Buzzelli place 3rd. Earlier in the meet Buzellli and
Savannah Lombardi started off the individual wins with a  1,2 in the 200 freestyle.
Asch won her two individual events as the Mules went 1,2 in both the 100 and 50 butterfly. In the 100
Aria Kapoor placed 2nd and in the 50 Lacey came in 2nd. Â Marco continued her winning ways in a sweep of the 50 Free and was followed by Lacey and
Lucy Mackey. She also won the 100 Free and lead off the winning 200 Freestyle Relay where she was joined by Buzzelli, Lacey and Lombardi.
The Mules also showed their strength on the boards with
Avery Rappaport winning both the 1M and 3 M by over 50 points each. Both of her scores were season bests and she also led a 1,2,3 sweep on the 1M withÂ
Kira Johnson getting 2nd and
Clara Ursu getting 3rd.Â
In addition Kapoor swam the 16th fastest performance in school history in the 1000 freestyle. (10:52.63)
With these strong performances the team looks forward to their home meet next Saturday (1/17) against Worcester Polytechnic Institute. This will be the Senior meet recognizing the teams 5 seniors (
Tahlia Crowley,
Abigail Eastman,
Emma Farnham,
Kellen Mottl,
Avery Rappaport) for their contributions and leadership over the past 4 seasons. The senior recognition will begin at 12:45 with the meet starting at 1 pm.
