Amherst, Mass. - The Colby College Field Hockey team played the Amherst Mammoths on the road on Sunday for a NESCAC double-header weekend. Colby and Amherst played a close, back and forth game, but Amherst finished with a 2-0 win at the end of 60 minutes. The Mules now stand 0-5 overall in the NESCAC conference.
Both teams came out strong to start the game, both finding offensive opportunities and three penalty corners each. Amherst scored the first goal of the game about halfway through the second quarter, making it a 1-0 game going into halftime. Colby came out strong to start the second half, but their offensive opportunities weren't enough against Amherst's defense. The Mules played strong defense, saving eight of the Mammoth's shots, but one shot got through off an unlucky touch, making it a 2-0 game. The Mules fought until the buzzer to try and make it a one-goal game, but it wasn't enough. Sophomore
Opal O'Rourke had a career-high of 15 saves in the game, giving the Mules a fighting chance.Â
Colby is back at home on Saturday against Hamilton at 11am.
