Colby Comes up Short Against #1 Seed Middlebury

Waterville, Maine. - Colby women's lacrosse fell to the #1 seeded Panthers of Middlebury College today at a score of 12-11. The Mules are now 4-2 in NESCAC and 8-2 overall.

Middlebury's goal-scoring spurts were sandwiched around Colby's four back-to-back four goals in five minutes. At the end of the first quarter, the score was tied at 4-4. In the second quarter, the Mules and Panthers traded goals until Middlebury pulled ahead with two goals in a minute of each other. With that final push, the Panthers led at the half 8-6. The Mules' defense was on point in the third quarter, holding Middlebury to a single goal while Colby's offense pushed ahead with four goals. However, Middlebury would find another wind and flip the script. Their defense held Colby to one goal, and pushed ahead with three goals of their own. In the end, the Mules fell 12-11.

Colby's Jillian Kane had 11 saves on 12 goal attempts, a crucial component to the Mules' defense. Julia Jardina led offensively with four goals, a ground ball, and a caused turnover. Tate Ban and Ainsley Dion each contributed two goals and a ground ball, with Dion also contributing five draw controls. Julia Maimonis, Stella Regan, and Olivia Kraus each also contributed a goal.

The Mules next face off against the Polar Bears of Bowdoin College Wednesday, April 9, in Brunswick, Maine.
