Hanover, N.H. - The Colby College Ski team capped its 2025 campaign Saturday with the Freestyle event of the NCAA Championships. With Alpine and Nordic scores for the week combined, Colby Skiing finished 11th place, second for Division III schools.
Senior
Jack Young closed his stellar career with a 14th place finish in the Mass Start event. Earning a spot for the US Ski Team this season for World Cups and World Championships in the shorter Sprint events, the 20k distance races held by the EISA and NCAA this season were out of Young's specialty, but the native of Jay, Vermont was impressive nonetheless. Sitting in 22nd place after the first half, Young picked off skiers one by one to finish as the second Division III skier and fourth from the east region. The men's race was won by Joe Davies of the University of Utah.
Andrew Defor had an impressive result in his first NCAA series, placing 31st. The sophomore made a great run across the second half of the race as well, moving up from 35th after the first 10k. Fellow sophomore
Maddie Hooker, also competing in her first NCAA Championships, raced across the line in 39th. The women's race was won by Kendall Kramer of the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
The Nordic squad will graduate four seniors this spring, including Young, but the experience gained by both Defor and Hooker across the season as well as this championship event will help propel the Nordic team to more highlights next season.
