Jackson, N.H. - The Colby College Nordic Ski team closed out the 12-race EISA Carnival season Saturday with the Freestyle Mass Start of the UNH Carnival. The men's team landed in 8th place of the 11 competing squads while the women took 9th.
Andrew Defor led a group of five Mules inside the top-30 for the men's team, all separated by just 18 seconds. Defor slid into 24th place followed by
Benjamin Lewis (27th),
Isak Nightingale (28th),
Taiga Moore (29th), and
Ellis Slover (30th). On the women's side,
Lola Villafranco was the leading finisher in 25th place.
Maddie Hooker and
Natalie O'Brien rounded out the scoring for Colby in 39th and 42nd respectively.
Team finishes aside, the completion of the circuit marks the opening of postseason awards and competition. Despite missing half of the carnival races due to international competition for the US Ski Team,
Jack Young was announced as a First Team selection for EISA's All-East team. He will be competing at the NCAA Ski Championships in two weeks at Darmouth on March 6th for the Freestyle and on March 8th for the Classic. Joining Young will be two sophomores who have also had stellar seasons in their own right, Defor and Hooker.
