Waterville, Maine. - Colby Women's lacrosse faced off against St. Joseph's College of Maine Tuesday, defeating the Monks 19-1. The Mules are now 2-0 overall.
Colby started and stayed strong, with the first goal occurring within the first minute of play and four goals occurring within the first five minutes. The Mules ended the first quarter with a score of 6-0. As creatures of habit, Colby once again took off at the start of the second quarter, scoring three goals in as many minutes. St. Joe's would push back slightly, scoring a goal of their own, but it wouldn't be enough to halt Colby's momentum for a 12-1 lead at the half. The Monk's defense picked up a bit in the second half, with no goals by either team until halfway through the quarter. Still, though, Colby would rally, and grow their lead to 16-1. Colby went back to its strong start tendencies, racking up two goals in less than five minutes with another goal later on to secure a 19-1 victory over St. Joe's.
Standout performances included
Julia Jardina (four goals),
Ainsley Dion (three goals, three draw controls, and two ground balls),
Stella Regan (two goals), and
Zoey Verbesey (two goals). The truly impressive part of Colby's game was the depth of their team. 12 different players scored goals, demonstrating an exciting potential for the rest of their season.
