New London, CT. - Colby faced off against Connecticut College Saturday, defeating the Camels 16-10. The Mules are now 2-0 in conference and 3-0 overall.
Colby's offense came out ready to fight, racking up five unanswered goals in the first half of the first quarter. Defense picked up for both teams for a quiet few minutes before Conn snuck in a goal and Colby did the same, resulting in a 6-1 lead for the Mules at the half. It was the Camel's turn to push hard offensively, scoring three goals in the first half of the second quarter, before Colby pushed back as well with two goals of their own for a 8-4 score at the half for the Mules. Conn and Colby traded two goals for two goals at the start of the third quarter with an additional goal scored by the Camels for a 10-7 score heading into the fourth and final quarter. Both teams went on an offensive streak in the fourth quarter with the Camels scoring three and the Mules scoring a whopping six goals. The final score was 16-10 for Colby.
Three players scored a hat trick (
Julia Jardina,
Ainsley Dion, and
Julia Maimonis). Jardina also contributed an assist and five draw controls.
Gennie Littlejohn assisted two goals and Jardina,
Tate Ban, and
Olivia Kraus each contributed one.
Kat Munter had four draw controls and two caused turnovers.
The Mules next face off at noon on Sunday, March 9, against Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I.
