Women's Basketball Begins Season Hosting Tip Off Tournament

Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Basketball team is ready to begin the 2025-26 season hosting their Gene DeLorenzo Tip Off Tournament this weekend, November 15th and 16th. They are set to face Dean College Saturday at 4:00pm and Wellesley College on Sunday at noon. This will be the first matchup between the Mules and Bulldogs while Colby took care of the Blue last year in a close 62-59 final.

The Mules are coming off their best season under Head Coach Chenel Harris-Smith finishing with 15 wins (most since the 2015-16 season) and a 7-3 conference record. The team made their way to the NESCAC Championship game for the second time in program history coming up just short to top seeded Bowdoin 62-59.

Colby is looking to have yet another impressive season after returning all their players from last year. This includes the 2025-26 preseason All-American Kate Olenik '27 who finished with 490 points last year, (19.6 per game) the second most in the conference. The Medfield Mass. native is a two time All-Conference selection and was named the 2023-24 NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Amelia Hanscom '27 and Lydia Mordarski '28 are also key returners who are the only two to start in all 26 games for the Mules last season. Hanscom led the team in rebounds (180) while contributing the third most points (266) just behind Mordarski who had the second most points on the team (292). Ana Von Rumohr '27 rounds out the teams 200 point scorers from last year with 233 points and the third most rebounds (131). She started and played in all but one game last year.

A group of four seniors will provide leadership for the Mules this season in Lauren Cho, Chelsea Ibenegbu, Lily Nagi, and Mordarski. The team is joined by a group four first-years who will look to make an impact on the program right away.

Harris-Smith is entering her seventh season with the Mules. She will be assisted once again by Sam Spadaro in her second season with the team.
