Waterville, Maine - Welcome to Colby Athletics' summer spotlight series, where we take a look into what Colby student-athletes are working on over the summer break. Up next we have rising senior
Talia Thompson of Colby Women's Basketball and Colby Women's Soccer.
This summer, Talia is working as a Biomedical Engineering Research Intern in the Cardiovascular Experimental (CAVE) lab at Aarhus University in Denmark. She is assisting with both cardiovascular biomechanics and heart valve research to help study blood flow dynamics and valve function. One of the highlights Talia has had so far has been assisting cardiothoracic surgeons with a pig heart dissection and testing replacement aortic valve materials.
"This internship has pushed me outside of my comfort zone and given me the opportunity to work on research that has real-world applications," said Thompson. "It has been exciting to see how engineering and medicine come together to improve cardiovascular health while experiencing life and culture in Denmark."
Be on the lookout for more of our summer spotlight series.
