The Colby Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving programs both started off a strong 2025 with victories over Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon. The men won by a score of 163-135 and the women won 157-141. Coming off of a tough 10 days of the second half of winter training the teams once again took every opportunity and came out victorious. The men won 12 out of the 16 events while the women won 9 out of 16. In addition to the victories the depth of the team helped to win in a total team effort.
For the men 8 members of the team were were event winners. The meet started and ended with victories in the 200 Medley Relay (Brandon Xiong, Alex Maclennan, Ethan Chang, Michael Fiechter) and the 200 Free Relay (Xiong, Chang, Carson Rehkopf, Fiechter.) Xiong (50 Backstoke, 100 Backstroke), Chang (50 Free, 50 Butterfly), Rehkopf (200 Free, 100 Free), and Maclennan (100 Breaststroke, 200 IM) also had individual wins in 2 events apiece. Other event winners included Ivan Knoepflmacher on the 1 M board and Brandon Morrison in the 100 Butterfly. In addition Curtis Johnson moved into 11th place on the Colby Swimming all time list with his 2nd place finish in the 1000 free.
On the women's side the #20 ranked Mules kept their unbeaten streak alive with the win. The meet started out strong with a victory in the 200 Medley Relay (
Gabriella Landau,
Kellen Mottl,
Lexi Asch,
Eliza Marco) and was followed up with a win in the 200 Free by
Zoe Buzzelli as she won the event by .01. On the boards
Alexandra Friedman was dominate winning both the 1 M and 3 M by over 30 pts on each. Mottl also picked up two wins in the 50 and 100 Breaststroke. Individual victories were also picked up by
Caitlin Lacey in the 100 Butterfly,
Tahlia Crowley in the 100 Backstroke and Asch in the 50 Butterfly.Â
The Mules look to keep their streaks going when the take on Worcester Polytechnic Institute next Saturday January 18th at 1:00 pm in Waterville.
