The Mules Conclude the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championship on Day 4

Day 1
Greensboro, N.C. - The Colby Swimming & Diving team had a busy first day at the NCAA Championships competing in both the men's and women's 200 medley relay as well as three Mules taking part in the 50 freestyle events.

The opening day was highlighted by Neil Mortimer as he placed 8th in the country in the 50 freestyle (20.04 seconds) to claim First Team All-American status for his second straight year. Gabriella Landau and Kellen Mottl competed in the same event on the women's side placing 39th (23.89) and 58th (25.25) respectively. 

As for the 200 medley relays, Landau and Mottl joined Lily Moy and Tahlia Crowley to place 19th overall with a time of 1:44.82. On the men's side, Mortimer joined Ethan Chang, Carson Rehkopf and Brandon Xiong placing 25th with a time of 1:31.82.

Colby will be right back in the action tomorrow with both the men's and women's 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay. Individually, Mortimer will compete in the 100 butterfly as Eleanor McGrath and Avery Rappaport get things started with the one meter dive. 

Day 2
On day two, the Mules secured another All-American award as the 200 freestyle relay team consisting of Mortimer, Rehkopf, Chang and Xiong finished 12th overall to earn Second Team status with a time of 1:22.03. Individually, Mortimer finished 18th in the 100 butterfly.The women's relay team of Crowley, Landau, Mottl and Moy competed well finished 22nd in the 200 freestyle relay and 21st in the 400 medley relay. Onto diving, McGrath and Rappaport competed in the one meter taking 20th and 22nd overall. 

Next up for day three Colby will have three individual competitors. Landau and Xiong will both race in the 100 backstroke as Mottl battles in the 100 breaststroke. 

Day 3
To wrap up day three, Landau secured the third All-American award for the Mules so far of the Championship after placing 14th (56.46) in the 100 backstroke to earn second team recognition. This is Landau's second time earning the award after receiving it last year. In the men's 100 backstroke, Xiong placed 24th while Mottl finished 31st in the 100 breaststroke. In the afternoon, McGrath received Colby's second ever Elite 90 award (full article here). 

To conclude the final day tomorrow in hopes for some more All-American finishes, Mortimer and Landau will compete in the 100 freestyle as Mottl races in the 200 breaststroke. Colby's men and women relay teams will be back in action for the 400 freestyle relays while McGrath and Rappaport return to the board with the three meter dive.

Day 4
To wrap up the final day of events for the Mules, Mortimer finished 34th in the 100 freestyle while Landau finished 52nd in the same event on the women's side. In the 400 freestyle relays the men (Mortimer, Rehopf, Chang and Xiong) finished 17th while the women's team (Crowley, Landau, Mottl and Moy) took a 25th place finish. In Colby's final event of the NCAA Championship, the three meter dive, McGrath and Rappaport finished back to back in 21st and 22nd place. 

Overall, the Mules had a successful NCAA Championship earning either All American first or second team awards in three different event.This concludes the season for Colby Swimming & Diving.
