Waterville, Maine - The Colby Men's and Women's Crew teams are set to begin their spring season heading to Gainesville, Georgia for their spring training trip. This will be the teams first opportunity since the fall season to get a large amount of quality water time as it is also the week with their highest training volume of the year.

"Essentially the entire year since September builds to and prepares the team for the training trip, and then we use the training trip to launch us into our spring racing season," stated Head Crew Coach Stew Stokes. "People joke about the schedule basically being row, eat, sleep, repeat for 14 sessions or so."

Colby will be practicing out of the Lake Lanier Rowing Club which was the site of the rowing events for the 1996 Olympic Games allowing the teams get to use an Olympic race course and venue for the week. There will be other teams training down their alongside the Mules allowing the teams to compete against one another. The days will consist of two sessions a day and there are indoor facilities if weather makes things unrowable.

"The spring training trip is always one of the highlights of the year," Stokes continued. "The chance to have a week to focus on team building and preparing for our spring racing season is something everybody is eager to get to and have been working hard to be ready for. The opportunity to row and train on an Olympic race course is something truly special!"

Throughout the course of the season, Colby will be led by a group of six seniors. Evan Goggin, Luca Krueger, Maddie Rapelyea, Jessie Rose, Charlie Stevenson and Madeleine Zullow. Stokes returns for his 24th year as the Head Coach of Crew joined by Abbey Moore-Kneipp and Tilghman Moyer this year as new assistant coaches who joined the team to begin the fall season. 

Colby Crew will head down to Gainesville Friday, March 22nd and return Saturday, March 30th.
