Men's Ice Hockey to Begin Season at Williams

Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team is prepared to kickoff the 2024-25 season Friday night in Williamstown, Mass against the Ephs of Williams College. Last years battle between the two teams resulted in a 3-3 overtime draw as the Ephs have yet to beat the Mules since 2021.

Colby is coming off a 9-12-4 overall record last season where they made it into the NESCAC Tournament as the eighth seed. The top seeded Trinity Bantams took care of the Mules in a tight 2-1 quarterfinal round matchup to end Colby's season.

Last years top goal scorer for the Mules, Jayden Grier (eight goals) returns for his sophomore season as fellow sophomore Matthew MacDonald also returns to the team who ranked third in points last year (three goals, 10 assists). Other double digit point performers from last season returning to the team include; Tyler Crist '26 (four goals, eight assists), Jake MacDonald '25 (four goals, seven assists), and Dhillon Wilde '27 (three goals, seven assists). On the defensive side of the puck, senior Max O'Brien will be back in action after totaling 37 blocked shots last year to go along with five assists. With three year starting goalkeeper Andy Beran graduating last year we will wait to see who will take his place in the cage this season.

Colby will be led by senior captain Nick Stapleton alongside assistant captains Crist and O'Brien. The team is joined by nine first-years looking to make an impact on the program. Cooper Rautenstrauch, Will Soloway, Michael Buenzow, Alex Keskintepe, Wyatt Schmidek, Ben Morgan, Massimo Gentile, Kevin McElaney and Luke Swaim

Blaise MacDonald returns as The Jack Kelley Head Coach for Colby Men's Hockey for his 13th season. He will be assisted by Cam MacDonald in his first season with the Mules after being an assistant coach at fellow NESCAC school Amherst since 2021. Mike Latendresse also returns who joined Colby to start the 2013-14 season as well as Pertti Hasanen in his fifth year.

Friday's conference game is set for a 7:00pm start. Fans can follow alongside the action using the live video and live stats links as well as check out the schedule tab to catch the Mules when they come to a location near you. Following Friday's action, Colby will head to Middlebury Vt. the next day to face the Panthers.
