Waterville, ME - The Colby College Men's Tennis Team was defeated 8-1 by the visiting Amherst Mammoths on Sunday, April 3rd. After an excellent win against Hamilton the day before, the Mules were confident going into today's match, but ran into trouble in the doubles, with #3 doubles falling by a score of 8-2. Joey Barrett and Jake Cohen, who are having an excellent season, came up huge for the Mules with an 8-4 win at the #1 position. The deciding doubles point came down to the #2 position, with the Mules ultimately falling in an extremely close tiebreak to give Amherst a 2-1 lead heading into singles. 

The Mules struggled in the singles, with no matches going the way of Colby, but 4 of the singles matches were extremely close. Jake Cohen and Max Schuermann fought hard but fell in third set 10-point tiebreakers at the #3 and #4 positions respectively. Ben Powis, back to full health after a sore shoulder injury, demonstrated amazing grit and fight in his #6 singles match, but fell in a very close third set tiebreaker. Sam Henry also had a very tight two set loss at the #5 position. 

The overall score did not discourage the Mules, as those 4 singles matches and #2 doubles match could have swung to the Mules giving them a clinching win against a top team. The Mules will look to rebound on Saturday, April 9th against Connecticut College in the Alfond Athletics Center. It will be Senior Day for Max Schuermann.
