Raleigh, N.C. -
Tyler Morris, the lone competitor at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University, broke a 15-year school record in the 10,000m and vaulted himself to the #1 spot in the country with his performance. The two-time Cross Country All-American kicked off his outdoor season with a bang. Finishing with a time of 29:36.14, Morris topped Colby's former mark of 30:52.79 posted in 2007 by Dan Vassallo. After graduation, Vassallo would go on to compete in the Olympic Trials for the Marathon and has finished the Boston Marathon in the top-10.
"The NC State meet was a great event for Tyler," said Assistant Track & Field Coach
Jared Beers. "The field was full of Division I, Division II, and even pro athletes. Tyler was one of only two Division III athletes in the race. He certainly raised his game and it was helpful for him to have a race where he wasn't leading from the start, adjusting his approach and chasing at points." Beers is the Head Coach of the Men's and Women's Cross Country teams, and also coached Vassallo at Colby when he set the mark.
Morris finished the race in 47th place, and his mark ranks 22nd all-time for Division III.
