Hadley, Mass. - The NESCAC announced season awards for Men's Soccer, and sophomore
Ethan Franco represented Colby on the First Team. Without a conference season last fall due to COVID-19, sophomores were eligible to be considered in the Rookie of the Year discussion, and the discussion quickly landed on Franco garnering that honor as well.
Scoring eight goals on the year, Franco ranked second in the NESCAC behind only teammate
Josh Rubin. He was fourth in shots on goal per game and fifth in points per game, and tied for second in the league with three game-winning goals. He was an intricate part of a team that defeated Amherst College in the first round of the NESCAC Playoffs via penalty kick shootout, netting his attempt as one of four Mules to find the back of the net in the 4-3 PK advantage. He netted Colby's first goal of the season in the opener against Thomas College, and he scored both goals at Trinity in a 2-0 victory.
The last sophomore to be named to an All-NESCAC Men's Soccer team was teammate
Ethan Fabricant in 2019. Prior to Fabricant's recognition, you have to go all the way back to 2000 when Jamie Lue '03 was selected as a sophomore. Franco is the 17th Men's Soccer player from Colby to earn All-NESCAC since 2000, but only the second in that span to be named to the First Team. Andrew Meisel '13 earned First Team recognition in 2012.
