Mules drop road game at #4 Williams

Williamstown, Mass. - The Colby Men's Lacrosse team fell to 0-2 in the conference, dropping a road game to the Williams Ephs Saturday.  Both of their NESCAC losses have come at the hand of highly ranked teams (Tufts #6, Williams #4).  They are now 1-2 overall. Williams advanced to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in the conference.

GAME NOTES: Williams goes up early in the game and only increases their lead as the game progresses.  Colby struggles to start an offense and this shows as they are unable to put in more than five goals. It is still early in the season and the Mules have room to grow and it's games like these that the whole team and coaching staff can learn from.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES: 

  • Jason Baisley (25) had the most caused turnovers for the Mules with four total.

  • CJ Hassan (20) and Jack Rickards (23) were the only goal-scorers today with three and two goals, respectively.

  • Matt Rocha (17) had twelve saves to thirty shots, coming away from the day with a 40% save percentage.

  • Colby was only successful on twelve out twenty-two clears making it difficult to start an offense. 

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE EPHS: 

  • The Ephs had nine different goal-scorers with Kevin Stump (26) and John Hincks (16) the top goal-scorers with five and four, respectively.

  • Williams had a total of 42 ground-balls during the game to edge out Colby who only had 32.

  • The Ephs were successful on 22 out of 25 of their clears.

  • Harry Gahagan (11) had a 77% save percentage on the day, only allowing in 3 goals in the first 52 minutes of the game.

KEY STATS:

  • The two teams were nearly even in caused turnovers with twelve for the Mules and eleven for Ephs.

  • Williams had 50 shots to Colby's 35.

  • Colby edged out Williams in face-offs 15-12.

NEXT MATCHUP: The Mules have a week off before their next matchup against NESCAC opponent Wesleyan on Saturday March 14th at 1:00pm at home on Seaverns Field.
