Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Men's Lacrosse team displayed a resilient effort Wednesday evening as they battled through four quarters against the Bobcats of Bates College in their final CBB match up. While the final score favored the visitors 19-9, the Mules showcased strong individual performances and moments of momentum throughout the contest.
Eli Chilicki led the way for the Colby offense, netting four goals and adding an assist to finish with five points. Chilicki was instrumental in keeping the Mules within striking distance early on, scoring in the first, second, and fourth quarters.
Will Steele also had a productive night, contributing three points on one goal and two assists, including a late score in the final minute of regulation.
The Mules got on the board in the first period when
Gavin Rothenberg converted a man-up opportunity off a pass from Steele. Shortly after, Chilicki added his first of the night to cut the deficit to a single goal. In the second quarter,
Jacob Thibodeau found the back of the net unassisted, followed by goals from
Joey Hagerty and
Matias Williams in the third frame to keep the energy high in Waterville.
Defensively, the Mules saw a split effort in the cage.
Will Heisler started the game and recorded four saves, while
Zachary Parks took over for the second half and turned away five shots.
Tristan Bassett was active at the face off X, winning 12 draws and leading the team with five ground balls.
Drew Gannon and
Will Bainbridge also contributed to the defensive effort, combining for six ground balls.
Colby showed great discipline in their transition game, successfully clearing 20 of 21 attempts. The Mules also matched the physical intensity of the game, finishing with 29 ground balls and forcing several turnovers.
The Mules will look to build on these offensive sparks as they wrap up their 2026 season Saturday for their final NESCAC match up against Trinity at home at 12pm.
