Mules Defeated by No. 2 Bowdoin Despite Fourth-Quarter Push

Brunswick, Maine - The Colby College Men's Lacrosse team demonstrated remarkable resilience on Wednesday evening, closing their match up against the rival Polar Bears of Bowdoin College with a dominant fourth-quarter performance. Despite ultimately falling 19-12, the Mules outscored the Polar Bears 7-2 in the final period, showcasing a relentless offensive push that kept the pressure on throughout the 60 minutes.

Eli Chilicki set the tone early for the Mules, netting the first goal of the game just over a minute after the opening face off. Chilicki finished the night with a team-high five points, tallying three goals and two assists. Joining him in the hat-trick club was Joey Hagerty, whose consistent scoring presence helped keep the Colby offense moving throughout the contest.

The fourth quarter belonged to Colby, as the Mules found the back of the net seven times. The scoring surge featured contributions from across the roster, including goals from James Counselman, Quinton Delorey, and Daniel O'Connor. Easton Bello capped off the Mules' scoring with two late goals, the final one coming with just nine seconds remaining in the game.

In the cage, Will Heisler recorded 15 saves, which was anchored by a massive third quarter in which he turned away eight shots, providing the defensive stability needed for the Mules' late-game comeback attempt.

Colby also excelled at the face off X, particularly in the opening and closing frames. Tristan Bassett and JT O'Neil combined to help the Mules win 14 face offs on the night. Bassett also led the team in ground balls with five, while Macon Burgess contributed significantly on the defensive end with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.

The Mules will look to carry the momentum from their explosive fourth-quarter performance into their next NESCAC match up as they take on No. 18 ranked Middlebury College at home at 12pm.
