Colby lets up goals in second, fall to Wesleyan 4-2

WATERVILLE, Maine- The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey lead was taken away after the first period, falling to Wesleyan University 4-2.

GAME NOTES: Coming back from the first intermission, The Cardinals scored three unanswered goals in the second period. Wesleyan added another early into the third period to extend their lead. Colby cut the deficit back to two with a lone goal in the third. The Mules now fall to 7-11-3 overall (3-10-2 NESCAC). 

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES:

  • Sean Holly (photo inset) scored his first goal of the season at the 1:17 mark of the opening period. Captain Brendan Murphy and Carter Breitenfeldt helped set up the play.
  • In the third frame Kienan Scott rifled in the puck at 9:18. Murphy and Michael Thomas assisted with the score.
  • Andrew Tucci stopped 18 shots in the goal crease..

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE CARDINALS:

  • Matt Zandi started the Wesleyan scoring with a power play goal at 7:11 of the second period. Spencer Fox and Tyler Wyatt assisted.
  • Wyatt then rocketted in the puck at 14:02. Tyler Levine and Cam Peritz moved the puck on goal.
  • Zandi then scored his second of the night at 16:57 of the same period. Walker Harris with the assist.
  • In the final frame Harris tallied the goal at 7:47. Emmet Powell and Fox carried the puck into the zone.
  • Tim Sestak finished with 25 saves.

KEY STATS:

  • Colby took a slight lead in shots 27-22.
  • Wesleyan controlled the faceoffs 29-21.
  • The Mules finished 0 for 1 on the power play, as the Cardinals finished 1 for 1.

NEXT MATCHUP: Colby will now face Trinity College tomorrow (2/15) in the Alfond Rink. The Mules will honor their eight seniors on Senior Day. Game time is scheduled for 3:00pm.
