Colby lets lead slip away against Williams, lose 4-1

WATERVILLE, ME-  The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team saw a one goal lead slip away and fell to the Williams College Ephs 4-1.

GAME NOTES: The Mules led the game after the first period, but the Ephs tallied three goals in the second period to take the NESCAC victory. Colby now sits at 2-8-0 in conference (5-9-1 overall).

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES: 

  • Kienan Scott (photo inset) rocketed in the only goal for Colby at 6:16 in the opening period. Michael Morrisey assisted on the score.
  • Andy Beran finished the night with 26 saves. With the loss, Beran now has a 3-2-0 overall record.
  • J.P. Schuhlen and Justin Grillo led the team with five shots each.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE EPHS:

  • Tyler Scott scored his first of the night at 4:42 of the second period. Wyatt Glover and Jack McCool assisted on the play.
  • Myles Cunningham redirected the puck to score the power play goal at 9:24. Daniel Woolfenden and Glover helped set the game tying goal.
  • Bobby Beniers rifled the net with a goal scored  at the 10:33 mark. Jack Detmer and McCool were awarded the assists.
  • Scott secured the victory at 9:13 of the third period. Will Somers and Glover helped the scoring play.

KEY STATS:

  • The Mules were held back on the power play, going 0 for 5 for the night. The Ephs went 1 for 3.
  • Colby led in shots, going 33-30 on the night.
  • The Mules took control of the majority of the faceoffs, 35-22.

QUOTE: "Great first period that should have been a 2 or 3 goal period and then they scored three in the second to set the tone. We have to learn to extend leads.  Creating offense has been a huge challenge all season," said the Jack Kelley Head Coach for Colby Men's Hockey Blaise MacDonald.

NEXT MATCHUP: Colby now moves on to face Middlebury College tomorrow at 3:00pm.
