Mules fall to Monks 85-73 in first home loss of the season

Waterville, Maine – The Colby College Women's Basketball team fell to the Saint Joseph's College of Maine Monks 85-73 and suffer their first home loss on the season.

GAME NOTES

  • It was a closely contested first half of basketball with multiple lead changes. The Monks and Mules were each able to go on short runs throughout the first 2 quarters but neither team was able to get any breathing room. The score would be tied 31-31 at intermission. The Monks were able to pull away late, outscoring the Mules 32-18 in the fourth quarter to take the 85-73 victory.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MULES

  • Offensively, Colby was led by Ainsley Burns, who went 8-15 from the field, finishing with 19 points. She also pulled down 4 rebounds for the Mules.
  • Alisha Aube continued her scoring ways pitching in 15 points. Aube is averaging 12.9 points per game on the season.
  • Keagan Dunbar and Brooke Guiffre (photo insert) each added 11 points for Colby on the night. Dunbar shot 50% from the field. Guiffre had another impressive shooting performance hitting 4 of her 5 field goal attempts and 2-3 from beyond the arc.
  • Guiffre is currently fourth in the NESCAC with a 56.4% field goal percentage and first in three point percentage at 52.2%.

HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE MONKS

  • The Monks had 5 players score in double figures in the game.
  • Julia Quinn finished with a team high 16 points while Cassandra Stapelfield was close behind with 14 points of her own. Stapelfeld was 5-5 from the free-throw line.

KEY STATS

  • As a team the Mules shot 43.9% (25 of 57) from the floor while the Monks shot it at 47.2%.
  • Colby pulled down 29 rebounds on the night and dished out 19 assists as a team.
  • This was a game of back and forth action with 11 lead changes and 8 ties.
  • The Monks bench added 28 points while Colby's had 20.
