Swimming & Diving open strong over Brandeis

Waltham, Mass. - The Colby College Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving teams went on the road to visit the Judges of Brandeis University and took home two victories.  The men won 176-108 and the women posted a larger spread at 191-100.

The Mules are hitting the ground running to start the 2019-20 season.  Out of 32 events, a Colby swimmer or diver took the gold medal in 23.  The men and women combined for 62 podium places (out of a possible 93).

The 91 point vicotry the women's team built came from many different performers.  Winning 12 out of their 16 events, the women also swept the podium in the 200 yard freestyle (1-Addie Paige, 2-Esther Han, 3-Lacey Wright), the 500 yard freestyle (1-Victoria Piacentino, 2-Han, 3-Michelle Kennedy), and the 200 yard IM (1-Rayna Hata, 2-Hannah Griffin, 3-Piacentino).  In her first collegiate meet, diver Monet Meyer (photo right) set a Colby school record in 11 dives on 1-meter with a score of 383.45.  Paige found herself on the top step of the podium for three events, the 100 yard freestyle, 200 yard freestyle, and 100 yard butterfly.

"I am vey happy for Monet," said head coach Tom Burton. "Her record breaking performance today is reflective of the focus and effort she has brought to her training every day since the start of our season.  She and her 2023 classmates made significant contributions throughout both meets and I look forward to seeing what we can all accomplish together."

The men saw similar success, winning 11 of the 16 events and collecting a total of 28 podiums.  The men's 200 Free Relay of John Connors, Jake Gray, Shaun Kronenwetter, and Xander Geiersbach (photo right) finished in 1:26:04, marking the 22nd fastest time in Division III so far this year. Connors won two individual events (100 yard freestyle, 200 yard freestyle) and was also a member of the winning relays for the 200 yard freestyle and 200 yard medley.

Colby is back in action on Saturday playing host to the Amherst Mammoths.
