CLERMONT, Fla. -- Holly Lallis went 1-for-2, walked, and stole a base for the Colby College softball team in a 6-2 season-opening loss to Wellesley College on Sunday in Florida.
The Mules also fell 4-1 to University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point in the second game of the day. Colby will play Buffalo State on Monday at 9 a.m. and then Loras at 11:30 a.m.
Wiley Holton had a solid outing on the mound against Wellesley. She allowed just three earned runs in a complete game while striking out three and walking one.
Wellesley scored lone runs in the second and third innings to get ahead early. The Mules trailed 5-0 and then got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hommeyer walked with the bases loaded to bring in Saul, while Niemiec was hit by a pitch to score Warshaw.
In the Wisconsin-Stevens Point game,
Kathleen Mason was 1-for-2, walked, and stole a base for the Mules.
Carly Swartz, Niemiec, Lallis, and
Hailey Rohall all had one hit. Niemiec and Rohall both had their first collegiate hits and Rohall had her first RBI. Hommeyer ended the day with four walks after walking twice in the second game.
The Mules scored their lone run in the top of the seventh inning after Wisconsin-Stevens Point scored two runs in the second inning and two more in the fourth.
Saul worked five innings for the Mules.
