Baseball Program Overview

The Colby Baseball program began back in 1876. The team competes in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), one of the most competitive Division III conferences in the nation. Coombs Field inside the Colby Baseball and Softball Complex is home to Colby Baseball, an artificial turf baseball field named after the minor league legend "Colby Jack" Coombs. This field, alongside the softball field, were opened in 2015, making them the first synthetic turf fields for both baseball and softball in the NESCAC. Coombs Field features full lighting for night practices and games, and a covered pavilion with hitting tunnels for batting practice. The complex also features on-grade, heated dugouts, LED scoreboards, and elevated bleachers behind home plate. The heated areas and turf has allowed Colby athletes to train and compete outside year-round without the worry of inclement weather.

Colby Baseball is currently led by Head Coach Jesse Woods who joined the team in 2019. In 2024, the Mules totaled 29 wins, grabbed the programs first ever national ranking and earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1966. Colby Baseball has competed in the NESCAC Tournament the last four straight seasons while earning All-NESCAC awards every year for the last 11 years. In its history the program has tallied 43 All-Conference awards, including 10 from just the past two seasons, as well as three All-Americans including Cole Palmeri the 2024 NESCAC Player of the Year.
