A state-of-the-art facility, the Baseball and Softball Complex opened for the 2015-16 season, making Colby the first NESCAC program to feature synthetic turf fields for both sports.
Coombs Field, the artificial turf baseball field named for legendary major league pitcher "Colby Jack" Coombs, Class of 1906, replicates the original baseball field that was in the same location. The softball field was relocated next to the baseball diamond on Mayflower Hill Drive and additional amenities were added to complete the Complex.
The Complex features full lighting for night practices and games on both fields, and there is a covered pavilion with hitting tunnels for batting practice. The Complex also features on-grade, heated dugouts, LED scoreboards, elevated bleachers behind home plate, and public restrooms.
Colby’s club and intramural sports programs enjoy access to both fields. They may be scheduled for use by local youth programs and regional tournaments, providing new opportunities for Colby to support athletes in the greater Waterville community.
