Waterville, Maine - The Colby Volleyball team opened its home schedule in emphatic fashion Wednesday night, sweeping Maine Maritime Academy 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-11) in the Margaret M. Crook Center. The victory keeps the Mules undefeated on the season at 4-0.
Colby faced an early test in the opening set as Maine Maritime pushed the hosts to the brink. Trading leads through a tight frame, the Mules managed to edge out a 25-23 victory to take the early match control. Colby found its rhythm in the second set, claiming a 25-18 win before overwhelming the Mariners 25-11 in a dominant third set to complete the sweep.
A balanced offensive attack powered the Mules, led by Anaya Francois, who posted a team-high eight points with six kills and two service aces alongside nine digs. Cyanne Jones delivered at the net with five kills and three blocks, while Sarah Friedrichs hit an efficient .556 with five kills on nine total attacks.
At the service line, Jordan Lee anchored the defense with four service aces and six digs. The setting duties were split effectively once again between Gabby Grujic and Sydney DeProfio, who dished out 15 and 13 assists, respectively. Libero Reese Loyd led the defensive effort in the backcourt with 11 digs.
Colby next turns to their first conference games of the season heading to the Constitution State to matchup with Trinity Friday, September 18th followed by Conn. College the next day.Â
