Waterville, Maine — Colby's field hockey team controlled the game from the opening whistle Monday, defeating Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 9-0, at Bill Alfond Field.
Alex Hood gave the Mules an early lead just 47 seconds into the game, scoring her second goal of the season to put Colby ahead 1-0. The Mules continued to build their advantage throughout the afternoon, scoring twice in the first quarter, twice in the second and adding five more goals after halftime.
Colby's offense consistently pressured the Saint Joseph's defense, finishing with a 38-6 advantage in shots and earning 24 penalty corners. The Mules also held Saint Joseph's without a goal while goalkeeper Ginna Jacoby recorded two saves.
Bridget Everett led Colby with two goals, while Abby Morrill, Ruth Collins, McKay Allain, Ella Anania, Celia Zinman also scored and Rose Memmolo put one away on a penalty stroke. Christina Sweeney, Ella Anania, Hadley Swenson and Avery Taylor each contributed assists.
With the win, Colby improved to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in NESCAC play, while Saint Joseph's fell to 2-4. The Mules look forward to hosting Williams College this Saturday back on Bill Alfond Field.
