Waterville, Maine — Colby College field hockey fell to Williams College, 2-1, Saturday at Bill Alfond Field. The Mules battled the Ephs throughout the 60-minute contest, but Williams' second goal in the first half proved to be the difference. Williams improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play and the Mules are 2-2 overall and 0-2 in the NESCAC.
Williams struck first, but Colby answered just over 10 minutes later, as Christina Sweeney found the back of the cage off an assist from Hadley Swenson in the first quarter. The goal was Sweeney's third of the season and brought the Mules level until Williams regained a lead.
Colby created several opportunities after halftime but could not find the equalizer. The Mules recorded nine shots, including seven on goal, and earned six penalty corners. Sweeney led Colby with five shotsl, while Abby Morrill added two shots. Swenson recorded one shot and one assist.
Goalkeeper Ginna Jacoby kept Colby within striking distance throughout the match, making 12 saves on 14 Williams shots on goal. The Mules also recorded a defensive save from Swenson.
Colby will look to rebound in its next contest Sunday September 20th against Connecticut College back on Bill Alfond Field.
