Colby College

Medford, Massachusetts - To be the best, you have to beat the best. After scoring only 5 minutes in, the Mules almost did just that, but Tufts, the #1 team in the nation and reigning national champions, clawed their way back, resulting in a 2-1 defeat for Colby. The Mules fall to 1-1-1 overall and 0-1 in NESCAC conference play. 

In what was a dream start for Colby, Jude Gussen, the Mules' top scorer last year, found the back of the net off an assist from Luke Cunniffe. After Gussen's goal, Colby held off the Tufts attack until the 32nd minute when their first shot on goal beat Mules goalkeeper Jackson Magee. The junior shot-stopper had two saves on the night while the Colby defense limited the Jumbos to four shots on goal. 

Similar to the first half, the second started promisingly for the Mules. Leo Robison and Gussen both got shots off but didn't test the Jumbo goalkeeper. The rest of the half was back and forth as both teams battled for possession and the go-ahead goal. The closest Colby came to a second goal was a shot from Eric Normandeau that rattled off the crossbar. 

The Mules are back in action tomorrow at 5:00 pm, as they host Maine Maritime Academy in a non-conference matchup.
