Springfield, Mass. - The Colby College Track and Field teams continued their post-season surge at the D3 New England Championships, where the women's squad secured an impressive fourth-place finish with 54 points, and the men's team placed 11th with 31 points. The weekend was defined by four regional titles and two new school records.
The women's squad was headlined by a sweep of the major relay titles. The 4x100m relay team of
Tally Zeller,
Kaitlyn Ewald,
Simone Waheed, and
Charlotte Brake-Hoffman captured the regional title in 47.24. The 4x400m team—featuring Zeller, Brake-Hoffman, Waheed, and
Amanda Schneider—also took home first place with a time of 3:53.87, a mark that ranks #10 in school history.
Simone Waheed added an individual crown in the 200m, setting a new school record with a blazing 24.35. Other top performers included
Kaitlyn Ewald, who placed second in the 400m (56.87), and
Olivia Doherty, who earned runner-up honors in the 800m (2:13.94). In the field,
Josie Hopkins moved to #6 all-time in program history with her performance in the pentathlon.
The men's side was led by
Lexington Lehnert, who captured the D3 New England title in the pole vault while resetting his own school record with a massive clearance of 4.95m (16' 3"). The Mules showed incredible depth in the vertical jumps, as
Logan Lehnert and
Wyatt Patterson followed in fourth and fifth place, respectively. On the track,
Jackson Coelho led the long sprints with a fourth-place finish in the 400m (48.68), closely followed by Sam Graubart in sixth (49.29).
Patrick Kuprewicz contributed a sixth-place finish in the 110m hurdles (15.00), and
Alex Lyon secured a point in the decathlon with an eighth-place finish of 4,928 points.
Ben Bognon also made history, moving to #10 all-time at Colby in the javelin.
The team will soon be at the Fire Elite hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. on Friday, May 8.Â
