Women’s Rugby Takes 4th Place at NCR 7s Championships

Boyds, Md. — The Colby Women's Rugby club team traveled to Maryland this past weekend to compete in the National Collegiate Rugby (NCR) 7s Championship, coming home with an impressive 4th place national finish in the Division III bracket.

Competing in a field of 16 teams from across Division III, the Mules proved they are a perennial powerhouse, marking their third appearance at Nationals in the last four years.

Tournament Highlights
The Mules entered the weekend as a 4-seed and immediately showed their grit.

Opening Round: Colby edged out 5-seed UW-Platteville in a defensive battle, winning 14-12.

Quarterfinals: Facing a Nazareth squad that had just upset the #1 seed, Colby fell behind early by three scores. However, the Mules surged back in the second half, dominating defensively to secure a 31-22 victory and a spot in the Final Four.

Semifinals: In a heart-pounding match against #3 MiraCosta College (CA), Colby held the lead with only two minutes to go. A late score by MiraCosta ended the upset bid, with the Mules falling just short, 15-14.

With two top-four national finishes in the last three years (including 3rd place in 2024), the Mules have firmly established themselves as one of the elite club rugby programs in the Northeast.
